All Star Process
All Coaches from 6U-14U are required to submit evaluations. Coaches must submit evaluations by the deadline to be considered as an All Star coach or a Spring coach.
Evaluations are collected by the Region Coach Administrator (RCA) and the All Star Coordinator (ASC) to combine into one document.
These are not to be shared without a good reason (i.e. to the EXTRA or All Star/Spring coaches for recruitment purposes).
The top few players from each team 10U- 12U, and 14U (if applicable) are asked to participate in the All Star tryouts in their fall season jersey.
The All Star Tryouts:
All Star Tryout Evaluations are run by the RCA and ASC. Additional Board assistance is needed.
Coaches will run the drills that include dribbling, passing, shooting, and small sided scrimmage.
The tryout is done to assist coaches in remembering the players that stand out.
The tryout is used to remind the coaches of the players skills when it comes to adjustments to the evaluation scores during the All Star Team Formation meeting.
Any notes or evaluations are not to be shared, except by the RCA and ASC during the meeting when adjustments to evaluations are made or when there is a tie breaker.
NOT ALL PLAYERS THAT ATTEND WILL MAKE THE TEAM AND PLAYERS THAT CANNOT MAKE IT ARE STILL ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.
The All Star Team Formation Meeting will be run by the RCA and ASC, with Division Director knowledge taken into account. Additional Board assistance is needed. All information discussed is confidential.
During the All Star Team Formation meeting, the following steps will occur:
Step 1: The Division’s Coaches will review the evaluations submitted and make adjustments accordingly, and they must all agree on the adjustments.
Step 2: The final evaluation spreadsheet will be sorted by overall evaluation ranking.
Step 3: If a roster is set for 12 players, the top 8 (2/3) should automatically make the team.
Step 4: The next 4 (1/3) will be discussed. Any player within 5 points of the 8th ranked player (last player in the top 2/3) should automatically make the team.
Step 5: The remaining openings will be discussed and ultimately come down to the All Star coach, RCA ASC and Division Director’s choosing.
Step 6: Two Alternates will be chosen to replace any spot(s) vacated prior to or during the Team Parent Meeting. Alternates are not informed of their alternate position and the parents do not attend the Team Parent Meeting unless a spot on the roster opens prior to the meeting. They will be informed by the All Star coach after the Team Parent Meeting if any spot(s) is available after the meeting.
Step 7: Players beyond the bottom 1/3 (players 9-12) should not be considered, except in the case that the above players decline their spot. The next player in the sorted spreadsheet should be the next player to be asked to join.
Guest players are allowed for tournaments if a player on the All Star roster cannot attend. The guest player will need to borrow the absent All Star player's jersey in order to participate. It is up to the All Star player if they want to loan out their jersey and they cannot be forced. They earned the jersey and it is theirs.
Only the All Star Coach is to notify the All Star player's parents and can do so directly after they are given the players names and contact information.
An All Star Team Parent Meeting will occur approximately one week after the All Star draft and will cover:
Commitment and expectations - Practices can begin after last core game in the division
Cost/Fees associated with All Stars
All Star Tournament - A few weekends in January
Additional tournaments - Up to the coach and paid for by the parents
